Friday Morning Prayer:)… August 3, 2017

August 3, 2017 - 7 minutes read
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me, I pray!
Power, all power, surely is Thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Hold o’er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me.[1]

Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling.  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment.  Blessed are all who take refuge in him.[2]

Beloved in Jesus,

This hymn of old reflects the necessary humble heart before our holy God.  ‘Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Wounded and weary, help me, I pray!’  My pride, arrogance, and haughty spirit do not fit with having God’s own way in my life.   Therefore, my only reaction when the flesh dictates and I recognize this rebellious tendency is to choose humble.  Prayerfully before God, with necessary reverence and trembling!  I confess and cry out for mercy to overcome!  In Christ, rejoicing because God is merciful and does forgive!  ‘Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now, as in Thy presence humbly I bow.’  Through the power of the indwelling Spirit, absolute repentance and intent to fight the good fight of faith, and sin no more!    Truly, this process reflects our in Christ life to varying degrees every day, especially as we mature and grow in our shared faith.   The flesh, overt sin, the selfishness of the world, anger, hatred, self-centered attitude, etc., O merciful God, ‘Mold and make me after Thy will, while I am waiting, yielded and still.’

As you journey in Jesus, me too!  I pray we, with great enthusiasm, hold fast to gospel truth and hear the words of the Apostle Paul, “Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.”[3]  We rely on God, ‘Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.’  God-given responsibilities, and his power to help us fulfill all that he has called us to be in Christ, and do to his glory!  ‘Power, all power surely is Thine!’

Like Paul, we too set forth the truth of the gospel plainly!  No compromise!  And, we pray, pray, pray, that God will have mercy and open the many eyes blinded by the god of this age.  Peter tells us to “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience…”[4]  Moreover, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…”[5]  What a joy to see the mercy of God manifest in another’s life!  In my life!  This supernatural event and process are accomplished by God, we yield and cooperate according to God’s sovereign grace.

Brother/sister, I pray you are working through your necessary trials, and trusting God through it all.  I hurt when my family in Christ hurts, I do not understand completely, nor do you.   Help me trust, Lord.  We can love and encourage one another, lean on the Everlasting Arms, and know our God works it all out for our ultimate good and his glory.   Therefore, we pray sincerely,

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Hold over my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me.[6]
