Friday Morning Prayer:)… August 17, 2017

August 18, 2017 - 7 minutes read
Heavenly Spirit, gentle Spirit, O descend on us, we pray; Come, console us, and control us, Christ, most fair, to us portray.

Hear us pleading, interceding, Thou interpreter of love; With Thy fire, us inspire, Holy flame from God above.

Come to cheer us, be Thou near us, Kindle in us heaven’s love. Keep us burning, humble, yearning. Dwell in us, O heavenly Dove

Pilgrims, strangers, ‘mid life’s dangers. We on Thee would e’er depend; Spirit,
tender, our Defender, Guide us, keep us to the end.[1]
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.  Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.  Declare the glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.[2]
Faithful in Christ,
I know, and you do too, we are in Jesus and he is in us!  John, inspired by the Holy Spirit wrote, “We know it by the Spirit, he gave us.”  Indeed!  Something happened and continues to happen!  He touched me, oh he touched me!  And oh the joy that floods my soul!  Something happened and now I know, he touched me and made me whole![3]  Therefore, we are compelled to sing a new song, to praise his name and proclaim his salvation day after day.   And, he walks with me and he talks with me and he tells me I am his own, and the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.[4]
Beloved, be encouraged today, and always in Jesus!  I need the Holy Spirit to bring cheer, to kindle supernatural love, that love manifest because we have passed from death to life through our Savior!  So, we constantly pray, ‘Keep us burning, humble, and yearning.’
As the world entices or the flesh wants to reign, I have to run to Scripture and pray for renewed strength!  I know when anger, pride, selfishness, arrogance, bitterness, etc., begins to manifest, that is not from God.   To varying degrees with diverse challenges, an ongoing battle to overcome!  Paul wrote, “What wretched man I am!  Who will rescue me from this body of death?  Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord![5]  Our gracious God condemned sin through the cross, even recurring sin in my life.  In Christ, I live a righteous life by intentionally living according to the Spirit.  As the flesh tendencies rise, the Spirit convicts, a healthy guilt directs me to repentance and many humble cries for Holy Spirit power to live and pursue this new life, most pleasing to God!
No matter who you are, the extent of your education, training, or experiences, we in Christ, struggle!  In fact, “…we ourselves groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.”[6]  Moreover, “…the Spirit helps us in our weakness.  We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”[7]
In and through the Holy Spirit, you, and me too are being transformed into Christ likeness, with an ever-increasing glory![8]  Indeed!  A progressive Christ-like life!  We work out our salvation with fear and trembling, but know it is God who works in us to will and to act according to his good purpose.[9]
‘Heavenly Spirit, gentle Spirit, O descend on us, we pray; Come, console us, and control us, Christ, most fair, to us portray.’

I pray for you, please pray for me that the reality of this gospel truth is constantly realized, becoming greater, more evident, in and through our life in Christ.  Lord help me to heed, cling, earnestly desire to “…keep in step with the Spirit.”[10]  Paul reminds us, “And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.”[11]
“But you dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.  Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.”[12]
