Friday Morning Prayer:)… August 10, 2017

August 10, 2017 - 8 minutes read
Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak,
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.
Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.
Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide;
And run not before Him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.
Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.[1]
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.  Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.[2]
Beloved in Jesus!
I truly pray for you, even as I write.  As you read, God knows your name, your life, your victories, and defeats.  Brother, sister, friend, I pray you find yourself singing and making music in your heart to the Lord all the time!   Yes!  This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long!  Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me… “And He walks with me, and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own; And the joy we share as we tarry there, None other has ever known.”[3]  One day at a time sweet Jesus, just give me the strength to do every day what I have to do!  Count your blessings, name them one by one! Count your many blessings, see what God has done!  And, so much more!  By comparison, nothing in this world compares to saturating our heart, mind, and soul with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs so we can effectively speak to one another, sing and make music to our Lord, and readily give thanks for everything.
I want to be very careful about how I live, wise in making the most of every opportunity.  It is evident at every turn, the days are evil!  Paul exhorts us to overcome.  My tendency is to move toward stupid imprudence and senseless folly, especially if left to my own devices.  No!  I want to know what the Lord’s will is, in Jesus, so do you!  Therefore, we eagerly pursue, pray fervently, make great effort to grasp, and allow God to teach, regulate, empower, our Christian life according to his divine will.
The Word of God is clear!  “…be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”[4]  “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.”[5]  Moreover, we do not indulge in worldly pursuits, or go to excess in anything except the gospel!  In fact, by God’s grace, we long for, cry out in prayer, and trust God to manifest himself in us, through us, and continually replenish, especially as we are filled with the Holy Spirit.
In our shared faith, we rejoice in knowing, sensing, and experiencing our indwelling God.  A supernatural truth revealed in Scripture.  Moreover, as God abides, Paul commands every genuine believer to be filled with the Spirit.[6]  God certainly never leaves me, nor forsakes, or takes the Holy Spirit from me.  However, I desperately need to be continually filled, even an uninterrupted filling.  I need the filling of the Spirit to speak to others with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.  Pastors, elders, worship leaders, recognize they desperately need to be ye filled with the Spirit.  Our brothers Mark, Sherwood, Eric, Jon, Hal, Greg, Tom, George, Bob, McIntyre, Andrew, Jack, Thom, etc., all our servant brothers, sisters, anyone genuinely abiding in Jesus, you and me, we are called to be filled with the Spirit.  To evangelize our communities, to love well, to be humble, to understand the depths of Scripture, to overflow with joy, to pray effectively, to do ministry, to be holy, we need God’s filling power!
Beloved, this is not a new teaching or concept.  This is gospel truth!  Therefore, I pray you are filled with the Holy Spirit and enjoying our God every day, even every moment of every day.  Oh, how I need Thee through every circumstance, frustration, irritation, loss, every high and low this world system presents, trusting our ever present God who continually empowers us to do his will!
Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.[7]
