Friday Morning Prayer:). November 26, 2015
November 26, 2015 - 6 minutes readJust as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bid’st me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot;
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come![1]
O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord. [2]
Beloved, Happy Thanksgiving!
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”[3] Yes! I am thankful for our gracious God! Why? He pursued me some years ago when my heart was so severely calloused with no inclination of my own to seek redemption or experience the mercy of God. My life was largely motivated by selfish pursuits, worldly gains, and fleshly desires. I was certain God existed and Jesus was crucified, even resurrected from the dead. However, my depravity and the world system dominated the life I lived. My knowledge of Christian truth made no difference with my unregenerate heart.
Yes, I am thankful for mercy bestowed and a supernaturally changed life! In Christ, I am “changed” and desire more change toward holiness by God’s grace all the time. YOU too! Regeneration has occurred, a depraved heart transformed, being transformed, and will be completely transformed when Jesus returns or God takes YOU/me and all those “In Christ” to heaven. An unmerited, undeserved, amazing grace… all initiated by our sovereign God. I’m thankful!
Moreover, I am so very thankful for our holy God who continues to pursue me, loves me more than I can grasp, even empowering me to pursue Him! In Christ, YOU too! Truly! Joy overflowing, excitement, the experience of our living God… uncontainable, transforming, renewing, an insatiable love, hunger and thirst for intimacy with God our Father! Through the cross, Jesus our God, Savior, Friend, Brother… consummated redemption. “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.”[4] I’m thankful!
Finally, by God’s grace we cry out for a manifest supernatural love for others. I want, long for, intentionally choose every moment of every day to love God with all my heart, soul, and strength and love others as myself. In Christ, YOU do too! I’m thankful!
O God, empower me, and those reading, the ability to perceive others through Your mercy and abundant grace. Yes Lord, increase my longing to listen better and understand through Your supernatural indwelling. Humbly… I recognize I can’t love well, nor can I serve, encourage, and genuinely care, without Thee. “Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind; Sight, riches, healing of the mind; Yes, all I need, in Thee to find, O Lamb of God, I come, I come!” …*
Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt;
Fightings within, and fears without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!
…*
Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!
Just as I am, Thy love unknown
Has broken every barrier down;
Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!
