CMPPS: Appeal for Financial Support

December 30, 2012 - 4 minutes read

Hi folks, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

I am writing to thank all of you for the years of support helping us to serve the poor and disabled. Moreover, your generosity toward the men residing at Luke’s House has been a blessing!

As many of you know Heidi Torres works M-F and most weekends helping to manage SSI funds for disabled individuals. She does a fantastic job in ministering to the basic needs of those we serve. More specifically, she pays necessary expenses to landlords, and vendors on behalf of our beneficiaries. She puts out 100 + checks a month directly to the disabled beneficiaries we serve.

The day to day rigors of this type of service include taking phonecalls and tactfully coping with demanding clientale. Heidi has the perfect temperment for this type of work. She is genuinely kind and compassionate, even when she is unfairly ridiculed or insulted. Christ in her shines as she daily serves those in need.

The end of the year is here and our biggest expense is approaching in February 2013. Many of you helped us last year to renew our Surety Bond (commercial crime policy). In 2013 we are researching for the lowest premium. We expect an annual premium btwn $1500-$1700.

The reason for this expense is due to the large sums of money managed for the beneficiaries. Each beneficiary only receives on average $856 per month. However, when this is multiplied by 50 + the amount coming through our accounts combined does add up.

We’d be happy to discuss any of the day to day processes and faith in action activities we are engaged in, including Luke’s House. Most recently, we have been loving the men at Luke’s House. Our Mt. View Bible Church family has been most generous. We have been reaching out to many individual families and the working poor who have practical needs. We will continue to help the poor and homeless as the Lord directs.

The gospel is shared and Jesus demonstrated at every opportunity. This year we have helped many individuals with clothing and/or food vs. doing a large Balboa Park outreach as in years past. Funds have been a down, but we continue to give away donations and help with bus passes, IDs, housing, etc., as much as practically possible.

My strength is not asking for financial support. However, I need to appeal once in a while to help ensure we are able to keep doing what we do for the poor and disabled. This is especially true at this time of the year when our annual bond expense is coming due and this expense is beyond our monthly budget.

Feel free to contact me directly with any questions about our financials or ministry to the poor in general. I thank the Lord for His grace demonstrated year after year to meet this expense. As the Lord prompts your heart, please consider supporting us financially as this year comes to a close.

How You Can Help

Please continue to pray that we will be sensitive to the Lord’s leading in serving the poor and disabled, especially those in the body of Christ.
